There is definitely a trend for older students to return to college. Several reasons can be stated. First of all some older students have had a life long dream to pursue a college education and they never did because so many other things got in the way. They put off college because of the need to raise a family, shortage of money, conflict with the job schedule, or lack of desire at the time. Some have chosen marriage over their careers and never fulfilled their dream.

Sometimes older students will get laid off or the economy becomes really stagnant and that triggers a return to college in an effort to receive their degree and bolster their chances of finding employment. Others return to college to stay busy and still others return because of the chance to meet new friends and acquaintances.

There are some out there who have a thirst for knowledge and education and have and when an opportune time to return to the college campuses presents itself they take advantage of it.

If you ever have a goal or dream and it becomes embedded within the subconscious mind, the subconscious will never rest until that goal has been fulfilled no matter how you try to procrastinate and use other activities as an excuse not to go forth.
As long as that goal has emotion and life attached to it the subconscious will pursue it.

Many children have fallen behind in school and some parents will return to college in hopes of setting a good example while at the same time providing a form of inspiration and encouragement to the child.

Older students pursue the adventure and excitement of college because early on in life they may have promised a now deceased parent that they would receive their college education. They are now simply fulfilling a promise which is realized through the actualization or attainment of a college degree.
