Cirque du Soleil: La Nouba is a spectacle for the eyes, and though there is not much story, it will certainly hold your attention for the ninety minutes the audience must stay glued to their seats. There are characters - clowns, a strong man, a fat lady, acrobats, cyclists, and the like - and much of the show, surprisingly, is just like a regular circus. The acrobatics are no more dazzling than those at Barnum & Bailey, the cycling is about as awe-inducing as anything you can see during the X-games on ESPN. And the clowns, well, they're amusing, but I wouldn't expect to get a belly-laugh or to spit up Diet Coke through the nose.
What will cause you to applaud are four little girls (they can't be more than eight), who will astound you with their hand-eye coordination and concentration and easily make up the best part of the show. In fact, they cause most of the other acts to pale in comparison. Particularly a shirtless man who flies above the stage with the aid of long, red ribbons for what seems like an hour in and of itself.
But overall, yes, Cirque du Soleil: La Nouba is worth the high ticket price, though you may want to avoid sitting front and center for nearly double the cost. The theater is relatively small, and though I sat up front, from what I could see, there really are no bad seats. Whether children enjoy the show is a question mark. Some seem to have a good time, while others begin squirming after the second act. The music, which should be more uplifting, could easily lull you to sleep, while the lights are annoying at best, and could cause epileptic seizures at worst.
