Empty promises and broken dreams,

that's what you gave to me.

You made me feel I was 10 feet tall,

you lifted me up so you could watch me fall.

You then pulled the rug from underneath my feet

so you could laugh when the floor and I meet.

What sort of honorable man are you?

How could I have trusted-for so long?

For you it was just a game,

a game that causes others pain.

You promised me security, a goldmine if I would stay.

I took your word to heart and pushed my doubts away.

Your security left me as dry as soot,

and your gold mine was nothing but dirt on my boot.

Your words meant nothing, they were said in vain,

I guess you used the alcohol to dull your own pain.

They say misery loves company

and I believe that's true,

I think they wrote that quote for you.

But I will go on, you can't keep me down

I am stronger that that bottle of Royal Crown.

There's someone out there who'll treat me right

and you wont catch me crying in the middle of the night.

Tomorrow is another new day

and it's not going to matter what you have to say.

(I don't care what you think, I'm aware of my self worth)

I've never known a man like you

a drunk, a liar, and manipulator too.

You let the booze do your talking with

empty promises and dreams and now I'm walking.

You stay there in your made up world

where you think you're the boss and your word is good.

But we both know it's all bull

as long as the bottle you hold is full.

When the drink is gone and you're not high as a kite

and you remember the words you told me last night,

you'll say you're sorry and you don't know what you were thinking,

but you'll never blame it on the drinking.

We both know what you have done is wrong,

Did you hear something familiar in this song?

Yea it's you I'm talking about

and now the world knows it too.

The man who makes empty promises and broken dreams,

That man is you

Wow! I had my "moments" when I turned 21, but was never an alcholic. I have felt this pain as well, from two husbands, ex-boyfriends, and a stepfather who were all alcoholics. And there was my mom, who drank to deal with the alcoholic husband/stepdad. I really dislike alcohol!
