Fall Cleaning Made Easy!
Basic Tips to Get Your Home Ready for Winter
Many people thoroughly clean their homes twice a year: Spring and Fall. When you have children, Fall cleaning tends to be more difficult as the children have been home all summer, messing up every aspect of the house.
How do you accomplish Fall cleaning? In my case, I begin on the closets; taking the summer clothes and either packing them away or moving them to different shelves. It is time for the fall to winter clothes to make their appearance. The clothing that I haven't worn all summer goes into a bag for the Goodwill. The other clothing gets packed away. A few things are left out; this is Chicago and we only get about two days of autumn. It tends to go from 80 degrees to 40 degrees overnight.
I recommend people who want to commence fall cleaning do so in mid-September. While I find it best to start with the closets, others may find it easier to begin in another room of the house.
In the bedrooms: Wash all the bedclothes and curtains. You most likely wash your sheets every week, but the top bedclothes often do not get washed. If your comforters or bedspreads are washable, take them to the local Laundromat and put them in a giant washer. This is also a good time to turn your mattress over.
