At the Manzanar National Historic Site you will have a wonderful time. Be sure to contact them ahead of arriving to find out all kinds of information that will allow you to get the very most out of your visit. You can write to them at the Manzanar National Historic Site at PO Box 426 in Independence, CA 93526. There are two phone numbers that you can call and they are the Visitor Information line, which is 760-878-2194 at extension 2710 and the other number is the Headquarters phone and it is 760-878-2194. When you contact them they can give you information on what special events are happening during the times that you will be there and good driving directions. They will be able to send you a map of the area so that you can get familiar with it before you arrive. By contacting them early in the planning stages of your trip you will make the best use of your time when you are there, thus you will enjoy your visit much more. Be sure that you make the time to contact them. They will also be able to give you information on the different accommodations in the area, too. Listen to their recommendations because they are familiar with the area and know it very well.This site is open every day from morning until night. There is a Visitor Center that you can visit at this site and it is open in the summer 9 in the morning until 5:30 in the afternoon and in the winter the hours are from 9 in the morning to 4:30 in the afternoon. This site is closed for the Christmas holiday. There are not any fees associated with site so keep that in mind when you are visiting. Make sure that you wear the proper clothing and shoes, so that you can do a lot of walking. You will want to explore when you are visiting this fantastic site.
Do not forget to bring along your camera because you will want to get some pictures of the area. There are also places to pick up souvenirs so be sure and do so. Picture postcards are a good idea because they can help you remember everything that you did on your visit. Have as much fun as you can when you are there and see and do as much as possible.
