In life today, there are many deadly and harmful viruses that plague our community. And in the world of technology, there are many deadly and harmful viruses that plague our computer systems. There are several ways to protect your machine. Below is a maintenance checklist, which hopefully you will find useful in your world of technology.

‘A computer only knows what you tell it,’ still rings in my head; reminiscent of my tech-school days at Lincoln Technical Institute. That statement stands correct without a challenge, ‘A computer only knows what you tell it.’ If maintained properly from the day of purchase, your computer can only require slight routine maintenance. By exceeding beyond that compromise, one can expect to fork over more money to maintain their machine.

General Maintenance/Computer Tips

· Spray/clean keyboard. (Be mindful not to use watery solutions; failure to do so will result in possible permanent damage to keyboard.)

· Do not leave any open beverages near keyboard, multi-outlet port or computer machine.

· Regularly wipe your computer monitor to prevent build up of dust.

· Regularly delete unnecessary files to free hard disk space.

· Use air spray bottles to clean floppy diskette drive, keyboard and mouse.

· During internet usage, be mindful of which type of files you download to your computer. Avoid files that don’t contain a lot of information regarding it’s download. In other words, if it doesn’t seem like a legit file for download, don’t.

· Running routine viruses scanning software programs (McAfee, Norton, etc..) will prevent the spread of many different virsuses (Trojans, worms, macro virsuses etc.

· Routinely backup updated copies of Computer files; incase of a malfunction nothing will be lost.

· Never disconnect any peripheral device while the computer is powered; this can shorten the ruin the connection and damage the circuit on the motherboard.

· Do not allow too many programs to load up

Good luck!

Takeaways
  • Computer technology updates generally every 1.5 - 2 years.
