We Are Our Own Worst Liars
together, yet alone,
faithful, but with lying parts.
We are who we were
a long time ago.
Only this time around
there's a little more around the middle
and a little less of the extremist parts.
We see the same way we saw
Those things that tore people apart,
Only this time with bifocal glasses;
Only this time without heart.
We were who we are
a long time ago.
The extremes,
no longer relevant anymore,
serve as a revelation
as to how far we've truly come
and how far we still have to go.
