Should you try to install your new car stereo yourself or should you pay to get it done? There are a lot of people that do it themselves but it depends on what kind of system you are getting for your car. The newer systems have a lot more things that you need to wire then the old car stereos. You can now get a car stereo with gps, a dvd player, and satellite radio. This can be a lot for some people to take care of themselves. If you think you can do it by all means go for it. Most people do not know enough about electronics and could fry the new system if they are not careful. If you do decide to take this big job on you really need to be sure you know what you are doing. There is a lot you need to know about the wiring of your car and old stereo when you are doing this. In some cases when you are installing new equipment that was not in the car when you bought it you will need to do some creative rewiring of the inside of your car. This can be very daunting for most people especially when you need to cut wires and you are unsure where they go. If you don't think you can do this and have the patience then it is better to hire someone to do it. You can find people to do it for around $50-$150 depending on what you need done. When you buy new car audio equipment from a store that specializes in stereos you will often get free installation. Some of the places you can buy them from might offer free speakers instead. When you buy car stereo at places like Best Buy you will normally have to pay for the installation unless they are running a special. You should always ask about the price of installation and any other fees when you are buy your equipment. It is possible you will end up paying more for your installation then the actual stereo if you are not careful. The stores that do not give you free installation normally have a place on site that can do the installation while you shop around the store. It is convenient to do it that way but you may end up paying more then you needed to.
