Introducing Joss Stone
About several weeks ago I discovered an artist who I've heard of before but never actually listened to her music.
Her name is Joss Stone, but was born Joscelyn Eve Stoker. She was born on April 11, 1987 which makes her 20 years old, today. Born in Dover, Kent, this is a county of England. Throughout her teenage years she lived in Ashill, Devon. She sang during her first public appearance at the
Uffculme Comprehensive School, which was the school she attended. During her first public appearance she sang the the cover of Jackie Wilson's 1957 "Reet Petite". Joss had suffered with dyslexic during her teenager years which lead her to drop out of school at the age of sixteen.
During her childhood she would listen to soul, and blues music, such as Aretha Franklin. As a result of listening to this genre of music, she developed to sing with a soulful style just like her idols. At the age of thirteen Joss appeared on a British show called Star for a Night, where she performed "On the Radio" by Donna Summer.
In 2002, she signed her global music publishing deal with BMG Music Publishing in the UK. Since she signed her record deal, she's performed with artists such as Blondie and Gladys Knight.
Joss is an English soul, R&B, blues singer and songwriter. She rose and became famous in 2003 when she debuted her first album, The Soul Sessions. The Soul Sessions album became triple platinum by BPI (British Phonographic Industry). Her second album Mind, Body, Soul also became triple platinum by BPI (British Phonographic Industry, which also reached the top of the charts in the UK. Throughout her career, Stone has sold over ten million albums worldwide and won two BRIT Awards and one Grammy.
In March 2005, Joss was named the spokesperson for the store, GAP replacing Sarah Jessica Parker. Stone recorded two songs for the GAP commercials, a cover song by Ray Charles and another by the Beach Boys. During the year of 2005, she had also performed with such a Robbie Williams, Melissa Etheridge. July 2005, she sang for the Fantastic Four soundtrack.
