When someone hears the word sentiment, what should they actually understand by it? The sentiments are defined as the way in which we experience our tendencies. The sentiments arise when we become aware of the agreement or lack of agreement between what a person perceives and what he thinks is appropriate for him. An example of a sentiment is love. We experience it when we want a certain good and because we know it is present and obtainable. When we obtain the good that is present, we experience joy. There have been times in my life wherein I knew that in my surroundings, there was something that would make me feel good. As a young boy, my parents would bring me to the park every often. It was something about that place that made me extremely happy. Many other kids would be there and the park was full of many obstacles. As a little boy, this place meant a lot to me. In this situation, we can see that the sentiment of love is caused by the park and all its fun filled obstacles. We should understand that our sentiments tell us something about the object that provoked them as well as ourselves. I learned something interesting about my self and that is that I enjoy the simple surroundings that parks give. It makes me feel good and I should go to a park if I want to feel good. Sensations are momentary, while sentiments can last for a long time. When we feel something, it is know as a sensation. For a period of time, our senses experience a certain feeling. These feelings tend to pass after a span of time has gone by. Our sentiments on the other hand last for a long time because we grasp them tightly. When a person has hatred in his mind, he feels like getting back at someone for causing this feeling. Until the person who caused hatred apologizes or is forgiven, hatred is still present and may last for a long period of time. When two people are in love, they have this special bond between each other which keeps them together. They both enjoy each others presence and this keeps them united. Relationships last for years.
