MTV has been hyping for weeks the supposed comeback of Britney Spears, who was their opening act on Sunday's awards show. For weeks there have been commercials airing 2-4 times an hour on MTV, newspaper and magazines have been scrambling to find tidbits on it, and the world has been waiting for the much anticipated comeback performance. This performance was supposed to be the comeback gig that would launch Britney's new career. It was supposed to show us a new side of her, a reinvented, rejuvenated side of Britney that we have never seen before, and dispel any rumors about her being a has-been.

After watching the opening performance, I, like much of the bewildered audience on the MTV awards show, was in complete shock. The shock was not over how great the performance was, but rather how horrible and downright pathetic the show was. Even many of her fellow performers and so called friends in the audience had a wide-eyed look of disbelief, shock, and disgust on their faces. Britney looked un-enthused, confused, and downright bored at times. She forgot the words to her own lip-synched song, and the dance moves seemed to slip her mind as well. She walked around the stage and was pulled in various directions by the dances, who obviously were trying 100% harder that she was to make it a good show. Her usual high impact energy was replaced with a bored, blase attitude that extruded from every point in her body.

Her outfit was disgusting. Her tight body and once firm six-pack abs have now been replaced with flabby thighs and saggy stomach. As a mother of two, naturally her body will change, but please if you can't get that body back, wear some clothes instead of a sequined bikini! She would have looked lovely in a nice pair of pants or jeans, or a dress, or heck a paper bag would have looked better than that bikini, which accentuated every terrible body flaw she has.

Her lackluster and ho hum attitude is surely going to be the beginning of the end of Britney's Career. I painfully sat through her performance, and was glad it was free on TV. If I had to pay money for it, I would be asking for my money back in under 5 minutes!
