At the time of writing this article, Roger Federer had just notched his 12th Grand Slam title by winning the 2007 U.S. Open. The current record for Grand Slam wins is 14, held by Pete Sampras. Mark my words. Roger Federer will annihilate Sampras's record and win AT LEAST 20 Grand Slam titles before he is done.

The first person I told this prediction to thought I was crazy. They said that Federer could win 18 by the time he is done. He thinks it will be tougher for Federer now that he has to contend with youngsters Raphael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Although Nadal and Djokovic are incredible players, I just don't believe that they will take that many titles from Federer over the next two or three years. Roger is still on top of his game. He has shown no signs of slowing down. The hunger to win seems as strong as it has ever been.

I know that Federer wants to win all four Grand Slam titles in the same year and I think he will do it. I know what you're thinking. What about Nadal, the king of clay? Nadal is the better clay court player, but the knee problems that Nadal has had this year tell me that he might struggle with injury in the future (read this article). If Nadal struggles with injury, Federer will take advantage of the situation and finally win the French.

Novak Djokovic is probably going to be the next number one player in the world. I just don't think it is going to happen until at least three years from now. In the mean time Federer will continue to rack up titles until the he has amassed a record that will be out of reach for just about anyone coming after him.

Roger Federer has said that he plans to continue to play tennis through 2012. He wants to compete for Switzerland at the 2012 Olympics that will be played on the grass at Wimbledon. This gives Federer five more years to try to get to twenty Grand Slam wins. Roger will have just turned 31 when the 2012 Olympics start. Pete Sampras won his last Gram Slam just after turning 31.

Think 20 might be a bit beyond him...but the defeat at Wibledon this year will motivate him to even greater heights ...it happens to all great champions , and he's no exception . He'll be back better than ever .
