Magnets
I have yet to meet a child who does not like to play with magnets. There is something about the amazing quality of a magnet to stick to a refrigerator that draws a child. Throw in letters and numbers magnets with old favorites. This will get them used to the various shapes of letters and numbers. Soon curiosity will take over and they will ask you about the letters and numbers. This is when the real learning takes place.
Crayons
Drawing and coloring with crayons not only helps a child scholastically, but also creatively. Using colors builds finger dexterity along with hand/eye coordination. Using crayons at a very early age has shown to help children once it comes time to begin to write. Children love to draw. The different colors of the crayons make it easy for parents to begin teaching their children the names for the various shades.
