Anime Review for Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School
An Interesting Anime with a Lot of Fighting

"Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School" is a thirteen episode Japanese anime series that takes place at this high school called Daimon High as fights are a very big part of the school curriculum itself. Anybody that is not familiar with the concept of Japanese anime might not get the idea of how there's a lot of fighting that takes place in high schools with the administrators letting it slide. However, Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School brings the concept on how things are decided by fights instead of political bureaucracy. For anybody working in the education field should more than understand the politics that involve school policy. But the way this system is presented, everything seems to be simplistic. For example, a fight can decide what club gets additional funding. If the Kendo club and the Art club were vying for extra funding, it would be decided in a sanctioned fight instead of a long boring debate.
The series takes place after the events of the manga. Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School revolves around the lives of Ryoko Mitsurugi and Shizuma Kusanagi. Ryoko is the current champion of the school who is dubbed as the K-Fight champion. Her main style is Kendo which is a style of Japanese swordsmanship or fencing that utilizes a bokken a wooden version of the katana. Ryoko's purpose is to find the way of the sword as she is obsessed with samurais and anything associated with it. Nobody has ever beaten Ryoko in a fight except Tatsuya Shishikura, the captain of the Kendo team that she is in love with.
Shizuma is the ruffian street fighter who was the former K-Fight champion until Ryoko beat and took the title from him. He has honed his abilities before returning to Daimon High to reclaim his title. In combat, Shizuma brings an ability which seems to be inspired by Kyo Kusanagi of the "King of Fighters" game series as he is able to practice a style called "kamui" that gives him fire-ki abilities. In short, he has the ability to generate and control flames. In the anime, he seems to look similar to Kyo Kusanagi asides from having similar powers. He is Ryoko's rival. Despite the rivalry, Ryoko has a crush on Shizuma.
