Decorating a baby's room is probably the most fun-filled activity you can do with your family as you prepare for the coming of your new addition. With a baby's room or nursery, you can be as creative as you like- you can explore your creative side, experiment with fabrics and colors in creating this wonderful new cocoon.

Here is a project that is easy enough to do even for a novice decorator using - what else, paint!

Paint, as you know is probably the cheapest decorating tool that you can use. A can of paint can do a lot of wonders in updating a room or space. With a baby's room we will use paint to create a whimsical place for your baby to enjoy during the first few years.

I call this a "Sunflower Garden", by using huge sunflowers to decorate the lower portion of the walls. In this design, we will paint other smaller flowers, bugs, dragonflies, and butterflies to add interests. We will also carry the theme to the lamp posts used to light up the room.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Paint roller

Paint brush (different sizes- small, medium, large)

Pain trays

Pencils

Latex gloves

Blue painters tape

Drop cloth

Wall and ceiling color:

Baby Blue semi-gloss paint

Light Green semi-gloss paint

White flat paint (to paint the clouds and sky)

To paint the sunflowers and grass:

Yellow semi-gloss paint

Dark Green semi-gloss paint

Dark Brown semi-gloss paint

To make the other accent flowers, birds, bugs, butterflies, bees, and dragonflies:

Acrylic paints of different colors (can be purchased in craft stores)

Watercolor brush (small ones)

Color markers

For the lamp posts:

2 garden stakes made of cast iron with hook

2 hurricane candle holders with garden theme (in this project the purchased hurricane lamps were decorated with bumblebees on one and dragonflies on the other)

A couple of lamp kits with electrical wires

Wall fasteners (to hold the garden stakes securely to the wall)

Light green spray paint (for the lamp post)

Light yellow spray paint 9for the lamp post)

Screw driver

Splicer or a sharp utility knife

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Start by emptying the room of furniture.

2) Place blue painter's tape on corners, moldings, and ceilings borders.
