Emotional Abuse is Still Abuse

The person who is being emotionally abused will usually isolate themselves from others. They do not want to go out like they once did. They will keep to themselves, infact they may even appear depressed, or just 'blue' all the time. They may withdraw from many activities, going through life as a robot doing only what they must do without getting real pleasure out of anything.
Another sign is they may become dependent on drugs or alcohol. With low self-esteem they will feel useless, and unloved, and find ways to retreat into seclusion with drug or alcohol abuse.
If the person is in a relationship that they are being abused they usually will lose many rights and personal thoughts in that relationship. They may not be in control of their money, their plans, or their lives. The abuser may tell the person who they can and can not talk to, or if they are working they will have to be home at a certain time, not allowed to stop with friends. Friends are not allowed to be near the person because the abuser is in fear of someone telling the person that is being abused that the abuse is not correct.
