Jury Duty Stamp to Be Issued at the Manhattan State Supreme Court in New York City

A September 10th press release of the U.S. Postal Service announced the first day of issuance of the Jury Duty Stamp, which will be issued at the Manhattan State Supreme Court in New York City on September 12th, 2007. The first day of issuing service for the Jury Duty Stamp will be a part of a Juror Appreciation Day ceremony for New York Jurors. The co-hostesses for the event honoring jurors will be Mary Anne Gibbons, a Senior Vice President of the General Consul of the U.S. Postal Service and Chief Judge Judith Kaye of New York.

The Jury Duty Stamp is the United States postal services' commemorative to jury duty as one of the cornerstones of democracy. The stamp is a silhouette of 12 person with diverse cultural characteristics as representative of the diversity of the citizens of the United States, and as a reminder that the constitution guarantees U.S. citizens a trial by a jury of her peers, explained the postal service art director Carl Herrman and the designer of the stamp, Lance Hidy in the U.S. postal service press release.

Starting September 12th, 2007, the Jury Duty Stamp can be purchased online at http://www.usps.com/shop or by calling 1-800-STAMP-24. The U.S. government has produced forty million of the 41 cent stamps, and they are available by the pane, which contains twenty stamps. There are also three products available for stamp collectors: a First Day Cover for $.79; a Ceremony Program for $6.95; and a First Day Cover with a pane of twenty for $8.99.

Additional services offered for the Jury Duty Stamp include a First Day of Issue postmark available for 60 days starting with September 12th The procedure for obtaining a First Day of Issue postmark is to obtain the stamps at a local post office or by ordering them, placing the procured stamp on an envelope addressed to oneself or another person, and placing all envelopes in a larger envelope addressed to Jury Duty Stamp/Post Master/421 Eighth Ave. Rm 2029B/New York, NY/10199-9998. The offer ends on November 11th, 2007, and all orders must be post marked by that date.
