Americans Now Have to Take the Responsibility of Doing What Congress Has Refused

The Choice of Congress to Abstain from Their Appointed Role of Keeping the Executive Branch in Check Endows the People with the Responsibility of Forcibly Removing Bush and Cheney from Power

THESE are, again, the times that try men's souls. Over 230 years ago a grand, if imperfect, experiment was attempted. The experiment was designed to give the people the right to choose their leaders and, by extension, the destiny of their nation. Yes, by the "people" the architects of
America initially meant only a small percentage made up of white men who owned land, but bold achievements often require tentative steps. Over the course of these two and a third centuries the experiment has been expanded; more of the people have been allowed to take part in the process. The Constitution is and never has been perfect; when flaws are found they have been corrected or adjusted and sometimes even readjusted.

It is time to remedy a failure of the Constitution once again.

First of all, the U.S. Government is NoT, I RePeAt-nOt-a 'democracy.' Sure, any of "the People" can submit to the rigamerole of 'the system' to become one of the representatives of 'the People,' but ThaT is where the governance starts! U.S. government is a Republic! Even most of the 'voting' is little more than an "opinion poll" to see which candidate gets more of "the roar of the crowd." x You are right about the government's mind-network being mislead. But revolution is a barbarian reaction. We need a good Mind-Master (I'm thinking Stephen Colbert or 'Weird' Al Yankovic) to advise the bad masters whom money/inheritance chose (Bush, Cheney, ~et al.~) on how to become worthy.

I never knew other countries had a vote of confidence...that's really interesting.

You bring up some excellent points in this article. Very well done!

Oh, and I want to add that it is very important that whomever we have after this as a leader be pressured to reverse the ravages Bush committed against the office and the Constitution. As you say in your closing, it needs to be done asap, and preferably with a fix that allows a no confidence vote. The next thing we need to do is to expand politics to more than the two parties. Multi-party coalitions force the leader to be more accountable.

Tim, this is the best article you've ever written I think. You have got tremendous guts my man. God bless you for having the guts to say what almost nobody else will. Now the government will probably be asking for my IP address and user info as well. I sort of hope they do come. If this country continues down the path it's going I really don't think I want to live here anymore.

Mr. Sexton. Please understand that there is a major reason that I am adding my name here. I will not allow you to be hanged alone. The days where we could appeal to our Constitution are unfortunately dead. Our Presidents are tyrants and our courts and Congress are largely marginalized, and have become more and more so over the last twenty years. The internet no longer provides Anonymity. All I can really hope for is that AC deletes your IP Address and User Info before the government notices this wonderful article and asks for it. If not however, this is a message to our "Government". Take me too. I believe still that we are a free nation and will continue to believe so, I will fight to see it stay free. You cannot overcome us all, and one day you will reap the punishment that has come to all oppressive tyrants. Justice shall find you yet. Mr. Sexton. I applaud your courage, I hope you stay safe.

I am still struggling with the "wartime" notion. Bush goes into someone else's country, batters it into oblivion, captures and arranges for the execution of its leader, occupies it... Calling this a "war" seems specious and decidedly one-sided at best.

Fantastic article. I've always been of the firm belief that Bush will do absolutely anything to extend his power - how easy would it be to enact martial law near the end of his presidency, which would then keep him in office until "the war is over"? Seriously, though, he's just an absolute terror and as a people who - whether we voted for him or not (it really doesn't matter now, does it?) - elected the man into office, have a responsibility to clean up the mess we've created. We allowed him to get in the position he occupies. We have to have the right and the ability to fix the mistake.

That said, the founders of our country saw the need to be alert, and to be aware, and that revolution every now again is a good thing...I think that in the America of today, economic pressure could well be the excuse bush would use to assume even more power....and at that point, all bets are off..

Tim, it is indeed time for action...I think there is still a possibility for the Dems to move ahead, although it does look thinner all the time. The next step I would suggest would be fairly easy, if enough people would do it. I think if we just stopped buying..if we literally didn't buy anything except the very basic things we needed for survivail...the corporate powers would be so shaken that the pressure would become such that they would be forced to leave. And hopefully, end up in jail.
