Why on earth do women feel the need to open their mouth when they apply mascara? There is no benefit to the eyes to elongate the mouth. This is just one of those strange things that women do with mascara that no one has any real explanation for. You would figure that mascara would be something simple without too much drama but you would be wrong. Here are four other things that people do with mascara that had no reasonable explanation and should not be done.

Never ever share your mascara. You are using this on your eye. The eye is one of the most fragile parts of the body and you should not get anyone else's germs near it. Even you mother, who gave you life, should not be sharing your mascara, let alone a complete stranger. That said do not test mascara in a store either. Ask their return policy, take the mascara home and test it on yourself. You may love the store and think it is a fabulous company and the employees are great every time you go in, but what about the one time when all the associates were busy and the homeless lady with pink eye put on the mascara directly from the tube. You will find that even stores that do free makeovers will seldom apply mascara to finish the look unless it is pulled from back stock and can be assured to be sanitary.

Do not pump the mascara wand. When you pump the mascara wand up and down you are not adding color to the brush, but pushing oxygen down into the barrel. You are creating a breading ground for bacteria to thrive on. When you are looking to add color to the mascara wand you could swirl the brush around the tube and then pull it out in an even manner. Think about getting peanut butter out of the jar. Do we pump the knife up and down to add butter? No, we swirl it around and grab it from the sides of the jar.
