Don Cesar Beach Resort., A Loews Hotel. Florida's Legendary Pink Palace has been a luxury resort since 1928. Th pink resort was built to resemble the Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki Beach. The Don was the hot spot for high society until the Depression. The widow of the founder lost the resort to back taxes in the 1940's. The resort became a convalescent home for wounded WWII veterans.

In 1945 the former resort became a Veterans Administration building and stripped down. In 1969 the last of the government abandoned the building which had deteriorated into becoming an eyesore.
