Lying on the beach, watching the colorful parachute aloft on the breeze, many people consider parasailing. A few build up the courage to do it.

Once your parasail ascent begins, you will experience a breathtaking view of the beach. Soaring safely above the beaches, in the waters just off the sandbar you will enjoy a bird's eye view of the Gulf waters and the shoreline. If you are lucky, you may spot incredible marine life, like dolphin, sharks, or giant sea turtles. If you don't care to see what lurks in the waters beneath you, most parasailing boats offer short and long rope lengths. The higher you fly, the less you'll be able to spot in the water. At whatever height you take flight, you will be amazed as you float through the warm salty air above the beaches.

The parasail ride is smooth, regardless of whether the boat is running over waves or still waters. You can usually choose the distance of your ride. Ride for a mile, two, or three. The length of rope, distance of your ride, and whether you want to take a dip in the water all affect the cost of your parasail ride. It may cost anywhere from $60 to over $100 depending on all of the factors.

One of the neatest options now, is that you can easily parasail with a friend, or even two. In the recent past, if you wanted to ride double, two people were strapped into the same harness together. There are now harnesses designed for two and three person parasailing side by side. It's fun to go up with a friend and enjoy the view and quiet breeze.

Fear is the number one reason people say they don't want to parasail. They are afraid of heights, being out over open water, or an accident such as a broken harness. Don't let fear deter you. Parasailing is relatively safe.

Parasailing may be an easy means for you to overcome a fear of heights. The harnesses and safety precautions of operators should put your mind at ease. You just have to summon the courage to take the chance.

Finally got the nerve. went tandem with my wife in Playa Del Carmen. I don't like heights but am sure glad I did it. They also dunk us on the surface of the water on our backsides and pulled us back up. Pretty cool. Now In can scratch that off the list. PS Don't know how you guys are getting wedgies, must be a different harness.

Finally got my youngest son to go up. You can go up three astride in some places. No longer lined up. Much more comfortable. Great experience. Do it!

LOL. Glad to hear some of you have had fun with parasailing. It is fun, but, uh, yeah, you can get a wedgy.

We have tried this. It was a lot of fun, except for the Olympic-level wedgie.
