On September 22nd Matt Stafford will lead his Georgia Bulldogs to Tuscaloosa for a a rare match-up against Alabama. Because of the rotating schedule the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs have only faced each other twice in the past ten years. The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georgia Bulldogs in 2002 when they went 10 - 3 and then defeated the Georgia Bulldogs again the next year despite going just 4 - 9.The Crimson Tide fans are hopeful that the trend will continue and that at Nick Saban's first season will continue to be fruitful but the season gets a lot more difficult during this stretch where they play Arkansas, Georgia and then a non-conference game against Florida State.
The Georgia Bulldogs on the other hand are expecting to win the game before and after the Alabama game easily so it's important that the Bulldogs win the Alabama game so they can at least go into the Tennessee game with a 4 - 1 record and the chance to catch up to Tennessee and Florida in the standings since they still play them both head to head.
If the game comes down to quarterback play then the Alabama Crimson Tide will be in trouble. Despite the 2 - 0 start John Parker Wilson has looked abysmal at times this season. In the game against Vanderbilt John Parker Wilson made some horrible decisions throwing off his back foot and throwing into double coverage when he should throw the ball out of bounds. As a junior John Parker Wilson should be past that stage. That game would've been a loss if Alabama were playing one of the better teams in the SEC instead of Vanderbilt. Crimson Tide fans better hope that Nick Saban recruited a good quarterback this year.
Matt Stafford has looked pretty good this season. The stat line against South Carolina doesn't look good, including no touchdowns and one interception, but anybody that saw that game can tell you that had more to do with South Carolina's defense playing well and not Matt Stafford playing poorly. The week before that Matt Stafford had an impressive 18 for 24 game against a good Oklahoma State game.
