Should NASCAR Offer Refunds for Rained-Out Events?

The Performance 400 was then rescheduled for Monday, August 20th... and was then similarly postponed. The race finally took place on Tuesday, August 21st, and was enjoyed by a severely diminished crowd of die-hard (and/or unemployed) NASCAR fans. Most fans, including me, had gone home long ago.
I traveled to the event with 3 other race fans from the Western end of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. For my particular group, it was about 8 solid hours of driving just to get to the Michigan International Speedway--16 hours in a car plus a several-hour raceday isn't exactly a "day trip" by anybody's standards. Between gas, lodging, food, and time taken off of work, it cost a small fortune just to attend the event. That's before you even consider the price of the tickets themselves.
We opted to cut our losses and start the long journey home after Sunday's race was cancelled. It hurts my wallet to just imagine how our travel expenses would have been compounded if we had decided to extend our stay to catch Monday's make-up race... especially since that much-hyped makeup race didn't happen either.
No refund of any sort was offered to ticket holders.
The closest NASCAR and the Michigan International Speedway ever came to refunding the price of the useless tickets was to tell ticket holders they were allowed to come back Monday... and then to come back Tuesday... and had Tuesday's race been cancelled, the "refund" would have been in the form of telling ticket holders to come back Wednesday, or maybe sometime in November.
Attempting to search the word "refund" on the Michigan International Speedway website resulted in a page with the message, "We're sorry, but an unexpected and/or unhandled error has occurred on the server."
Is it fair?
