When I indulge my sweet tooth it is with cool and creamy cookies and cream ice cream. I admit. It really doesn't matter where it comes from. Cookies and Cream is the best ice cream every created.

There is no bad cookies and cream ice cream. I will tell you my favorite and least favorite fast food cookies and cream shakes, flurries, frosties, etc.

The absolute best Cookies 'N Cream in a shake is Dairy Queen's Cookies and Cream Blizzard. Dairy Queen has the best ice cream. It is always smooth and creamy, and they add just the right amount of Oreo bits for a great Cookies 'N Cream Blizzard.

Dairy Queen offers three sizes, so you can match your appetite, or, if you are like me, can match your mood. When I need feel good food, I head to Dairy Queen for a shake. The best thing is they never say their ice cream machine is broken. I always know I can count on the creamy cool flavor of Cookies and Cream at Dairy Queen. They'll make it extra special with a dollop of whipped cream on top, if you ask nicely.

Sonic comes in second for a good Cookies and Cream shake. They add lots of cookies. The cookie chunks are a little bigger than DQ's. That is a positive or negative depending on personal preference. Sonic will also add whipped topping and even sprinkle a few Oreo crumbs on top of that. It's really good. The best thing about Sonic is that they are open late night, when I often need my comfort food. DQ closes around 10pm during the week. I'm just getting geared up at 10pm. I need late night service. The biggest problem with Sonic, is that our local Sonic has a chronic problem with their ice cream machine. It is broken 50% of the time.

McDonald's also has Cookies 'N Cream shakes. In my opinion, however, the McFlurry is not worth the calories. McDonald's ice cream isn't as creamy and smooth as Sonic and Dairy Queen. The serving size is also small. If I'm going to eat junk food, I figure: (a) it may as well be enough to really satisfy me, and (b) it should taste good enough to waste the calories. I'll only eat McDonald's in case of emergency need of comfort food.

Great article. I like the M&M's and ice cream mixture - even better is (I have to do it myself. No one has it.) Butter Pecan Ice cream with Girardelli milk chocolate chips, caramel, m&m's, and my homemade whipped cream. Try that on top of angel food cake with strawberries - mmmmmmm. Can you tell I first invented that one when I was pregnant? LOL :-)

OH MY GOSH - Please send my hubby and I a case of BLUE BELL ice cream from your picture! Of all the things we miss from Texas - it is our BLUE BELL. There is no better ice cream. Thanks for the review, Lenora.
