Several of the films that will be screened at the 10th Extreme Filmmaker 48 Hour Film Festival this year have been announced. Mark Kochinski, one of the founders of the 48 Hour Film Festival and a respected visual effects supervisor who has worked on everything from Xena to The Matrix movies, was recently featured as an actor in special "outtake" segments on the Fox reality show On the Lot. In fact, the producers of On the Lot-created in partnership with Steven Spielberg-sought the advice of the men behind the 48 Hour Film Festival for potential contestants. Kochinski tells me that the following list includes just the movies that have already made the grade for a special public viewing, but that several more films are expected to added by the end of the week: Swappin' Heads by Greg Benson
Mercy by Erik Espera and Ryan Todd
Man Alive by Jim Menza
Not So Undercover by Karen Agnes and Judy Cosgrove-Kao
Chills by William Kallay
The Donation by Paula Rhodes and Scott Davis
A Date by Kari Nissena
Sin Hurt by Nate White and Daniel Wall
21 by Craig Kuehne
To Has Been or Not To Has Been by Johnny G and Rhonda Vision
The 2ndby Nolan Muelle
Kochinski, whose own films submitted to previous Extreme Filmmaker 48 Hour Film Festivals can be found here and here, as well as elsewhere, agrees that this year's short films made by people from all over the country within a tight 48 hour shooting schedule has continued a positive trend of improved quality and creativity with each new festival. What began as a contest among a three film fans that each held jobs at various levels in the movie industry to see who could make the best movie over a weekend has turned into a renowned and respected event. The very first airing of those movies took place in an office; this year's winning entrants will be arriving at the Arclight Cinema on no less an iconic Hollywood street that Sunset Blvd. to bask in the full limelight of a world premiere.
