If you are the type of person who has a lot of time for a lovebird than it's best to get only one love bird because the bird with bond with you well. If you are the type of person who works long hours and isn't home a lot of the time you will want to purchase another love bird to keep your love bird company. This of course means that the lovebirds will bond with each other but they will still bond with you also. Birds get very lonely and stressed out if they do not have social interaction with another bird or their owner.
Lovebirds are not like the other larger parrots because they do not speak as clearly. Lovebirds will try to imitate your speech and different noises that you make. If you are purchasing a bird simply because you want it to talk you should purchase a larger bird that talks right away. Some birds will never learn to talk, even African Greys sometimes will never speak. A lot of birds end up very lonely because the owner becomes upset with the fact that the bird will not learn to speak. Lovebirds will not speak words but they will make noises and imitate you the best that they can. You can perhaps teach your bird to whistle.
