On the Air . . .This just in . . . Are we clear? Those were just a few of the original titles tossed around for the highly anticipated sitcom, Back to You, starring Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton. Back to You is a full throttle star fest, on camera and off, that is sure to run away with its Wednesday night time slot.Grammer has 20 years of sitcom experience (Cheers and Frasier) scoring four Emmys in the process, while Heaton earned two Emmy's for her portrayal of Debra on Everybody Loves Raymond. But don't expect a recasting of their former roles. Chuck Darling (Grammer) may have Frasier's ego but lacks the intelligence to justify it. Darling is a skirt chasing womanizer who dumped his Pittsburgh anchor position for the hotter LA market, only to be cast off when one of his on air tirades appears on the internet. Heaton's character, Kelly Carr, is the know-it-all co-anchor that Darling ditched on the fast track to fame. Since Darling's departure, the ratings have slipped and Carr must swallow her pride as the network woos him back and tries to rekindle their former chemistry.
Oh but wait, there's even more star power. Every newsroom needs an inappropriate sports anchor, and this Pittsburgh crew has Marsh McGinley played by Fred Willard (Best in Show and A Mighty Wind). He's no stranger to the Emmy nomination process, with three nods for his recurring role on Roseanne. And don't forget about that new news staple--the saucy weather girl . . . excuse me, meteorologist . . . played by the sexy Ayda Field (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Days of Our Lives). Experienced actors, Josh Gad and Ty Burrell, round out the channel 9 news cast and crew.
Even Kelly Carr's ten-year-old daughter, Gracie, is played by 'veteran' Laura Marano. Marano has made guest appearances on Ghost Whisperer and Joan of Arcadia along with a recurring role on Without a Trace. You may remember her best, however, as one of the embarrassingly intelligent classmates from Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? And smart she is, not only landing a role with this stellar cast of actors, but the brain trust behind the soon to be hit show.
