Cockatoos Vs. Cockatiels: The Difference Between the Two

Some people think that Cockatiels and Cockatoos are the same thing. They are very similar but they also have their differences as well. Cockatiels and Cockatoos both have the same basic shape with a mohawk and pointed tail feathers. They are also about the same color, a light cream color
with a yellow mohawk on top of their head. Cockatiels however, have a red rosy cheek which can often be the main aspect of telling the two apart from one another. That and the fact that Cockatoos are at least three times the size of your average Cockatiel. Cockatiels are a lot easier to care for because of their size. You don't need a very large cage like you would need if you had a Cockatoo.

Cockatoos are also much more expensive. Cockatoos are at least one thousand dollars versus a cockatiel which might be close to one hundred dollars. Cockatoos are very good talkers and they are very loud. Cockatiels cannot talk like Cockatoos can. Cockatiels are known for imitating basic sounds and whistling. Males are often times much more vocal than females. The males are the whistlers and the females are the screechers. Cockatoos will be much more talkative and that's one of the reasons that people buy the lovely Cockatoo.

Cockatoos are a little bit more dangerous than you average Cockatiel. Cockatiels may bite from time to time but it probably will not break the skin. Cockatoos have a much more powerful bite and they can really hurt you if you are not careful. You will want to make sure that you get a nice Cockatoo that will not bite you. You should probably keep your children away from Cockatoos whereas your children will probably be happy to play with Cockatiels. For both birds you will need some basic thing such as a cage, water dish, food dish and toys. You will spend a lot more money on a Cockatoo than you will a Cockatiel. Cockatiels are always pretty friendly and they don't require as much time bonding with you as a Cockatoo would. Cockatoos are known to pluck out their feathers if they get bored or stressed out.
