Parenting is the most creative job in the world, which is why it is also the most exciting. If you don't strive for innovation on a regular basis, you'll likely have to put up with lots of headaches. This is why parents are starting to back off the typical rules---as well as the "because I said so" line---in favor of unique discipline rules that work.Think of the complaints, arguments and discipline problems that you experience on a daily basis with your kids. Maybe they are always complaining that they're "bored" or perhaps they argue over whose cinamon roll has more icing. Whatever the case, you can deal with these common frustrations by making up unique discipline rules that put situations in a different light.
Unique Discipline Rule #1: If You Want to Be With Me When I Work, You Have to Work, Too
This is definitely a unique discipline rule because it kills two birds with the proverbial stone. If your kids are always climbing underfoot when you're folding the laundry or putting away the dishes, use this rule to inspire help from your kids or get some peace and quiet. If your children know that they have to help if they want to be in the same room while you do chores, they'll be more likely to pitch in around the house.
The bottom line is that your kids want to be around you all the time. Granted, they would prefer that you read to them or play a game of Chutes & Ladders, but housework can be fun, as well. If you want your daily chores to go more smoothly, use this unique discipline rule to tame your herd.
Unique Discipline Rule #2: I Don't Work Past Nine O'Clock
One of the major problems that parents have is getting all of the kids down for bed at a reasonable hour. They always want "one more story" or "five more minutes of TV", which pushes back your alone-time more each night. If this is a common problem in your house, try a unique discipline rule that works! Tell your kids that you've made a new Law (laws are even more serious than rules), which is that you can't work past nine o'clock.
