It can happen at night, or it can occur in the daytime hours as well. As its name implies, Tooth Grinding, or Bruxism- as it's known in the medical world- is the practice of grinding or forcing one's teeth together. The main cause of this health disorder is considered to be stress. It's been shown that people who have high-stress jobs, like brain surgeons and watchmakers, for example, have a tendency to grind their teeth. This problem can also be caused if a person has a dental filling that's higher than the rest of his/her teeth. No matter what is causing you to suffer from Bruxism, you can try to end the problem by using these homemade remedies for tooth grinding.

If you let your problem with tooth grinding go, without trying homemade remedies or visiting your healthcare professional, you can actually cause a great amount of damage to your teeth. You can wear your teeth down, loosen your teeth, make them become more sensitive to hot and cold foods and drinks, suffer from pains in your jaws, neck and shoulders, and have headaches, actually dislocate your jaws, and suffer from ringing in your ears. As you can tell, tooth grinding is a serious medical disorder that requires immediate treatment.

The first homemade remedy you can try is to relax your mind and body before you go to bed. Studies show that many people who grind their teeth do so because of stress. Therefore, relaxing yourself before you retire can help eliminate this problem.

Takeaways
  • Try to relax your mind and body before you go to bed.
  • Try to use Calcium and Magnesium as a homemade remedy for tooth grinding.
  • Bruxism can cause damage to your teeth and a host of other ailments.
Did You Know?
An estimated 40 million Americans suffer from Tooth Grinding. At least 5 percent of that number grind their teeth hard enough to damage their teeth.

The calcium-magnesium 2:1 ratio is money and has been working for decades. They combine to work as a muscle relaxant and are very effective for cramps and spasms. Mike i suggest you and everyone else try this... just go to a Vitamin Store and get a high quality, vegetarian capsule with Cal-MAg [remember 2:1 ratio!]. Try about 600mg:300mg right before bed to start out, it will work IMMEDIATELY. Good luck.

I can't wear the Nightguard due to a broken filling and tooth on top. My jaw seems to clench all the time. And I clench teeth during sleep every single day. It's ruining my marriage. Anybody got a cheap fix. I don't have insurance or I'd go to dentist to see if medical reasons are cause.

I agree that bruxism can be a problem; I've damaged some of my teeth slightly, and have experienced some of the symptoms you've mentioned, like headaches and ringing in the ears. I wear The Doctor's Nightguard to bed. It's a bit bulky, but works well.
