This vintage looking 1930's Halloween Jack O Lantern craft was inspired by a sweet little old paper jack o lantern that was my grandmother's when she was a child. I love vintage Halloween decorations.

I come across these sweet little old 1900's paper jack o lanterns all the time. These vintage Halloween decorations are simply too expensive to start collecting.

You can make your own vintage Halloween decorations paper Halloween pumpkin reproduction though with some very simple materials!

To Make Your Own Vintage Looking Paper Halloween Jack O Lanterns You Will Need:

Balloons

Strips of newspaper

Paper mache mix

Orange acrylic paint

Exacto knife

More colors of acrylic paint

Wood gel stain

Clear acrylic spray paint

To get started making yoru vintage Halloween decorations you will need to blow up one balloon for each vintage paper jack o lantern you will be making.

Now, rip yoru newspaper into strips of long pieces. You can also use newsprint here as well.

You will need to buy or make your own paper mache mix. You can find recipes for piñata online that use flour, salt and water. You can also use a story made paper mache mix.

Now, dip your strips of paper into the mix and start wrapping them around the balloon.

Cover the entire balloon with strips of paper to create a paper ball. You will need to let the wet balloon dry now.

It is also a great idea to weigh down yoru balloon while it is wet to create flat bottom.

Use some plastic wrap and plastic wrap a few books. Now, stand two on their sides that are a tiny it shorter than yoru balloon. Place the balloon in between them.

Now, top it off with another book to press it down.

Let your balloon dry.

Now, once the balloon is dry use a knife to cut out a hole in the top.

You can also use that same knife to "carve" out the details of your pumpkin.

Now, paint on a coat of orange paint on the inside out and out. Use other repaints like red, blue, and yellow to add details.

You can also skip carving out the eyes and mouth and paint them on.
