What is the right dog for a particular person or family? That depends on many factors such as amount of space, time involved with dog, how they get along with children and other animals are just a few factors to consider.

The Brittany Spaniel is the right dog for bird hunting and if you are looking for a companion dog that is great with children, strangers and other dogs. This medium size leggy dog does best outdoors as it needs plenty of exercise and has great stamina. If you have acreage the Brittany Spaniel will love roaming your property for the 10-12 years of their life. If you have a body of water, the Brittany Spaniel loves to retrieve from the water.

This active dog is a free thinker and extremely intelligent. The Brittany is easy to handle and is eager to please their master. This loving and gentle dog does need some attention.

If not, the Brittany Spaniel can suffer separation anxiety if left alone. This will result in the Brittany in being destructive and constantly barking. Some Brittany Spaniels are nervous and can be hyperactive. You will find that if the Brittany Spaniel is treated roughly, they will probably be timid.

This breed has been around since the 19th century in France. The Brittany Spaniel is a healthy breed for the most part. Occasionally, some of the dogs of this breed will experience hip dysplasia, seizures or ear infections. The males get a little larger than the females. A male Brittany Spaniel will weigh 35-40 pounds and a female 30-35 pounds.

The eyes of the Brittany Spaniel are amber or hazel. The color of the eyes depends on the coat color of the dog. The single coat of the Brittany Spaniel is short and lightly feathered. The ears are short and high set. It is definitely a low maintenance dog and a light shedder.

Even thought the Brittany Spaniel is not a large dog, it is a good watch dog. It will bark to warn its owners of strangers. In fact, when they get excited, the Brittany Spaniel has a tendency to dribble urine. Also, there may be a persistent whining in addition to this. My dog when she starts whining paces the yard stopping to take bites from her food dish.
