Freewebs or Bravenet? Both companies offer a wide range of options for anyone looking to host a web site. These options include both free and premium packages. Getting a free web site courtesy of Freewebs or Bravenet means accepting that advertising banners will be the first thing visitors to your site will see and you have no control over what products are advertised. Even if you choose to go with the free option, however, you can still produce a professional-looking site with the tools that both Freewebs and Bravenet offer. Moving up to a premium package is even better, of course.

Both Freewebs and Bravenet are designed to let you build a good-looking web site quickly and without needing to know complicated html or css code. This is accomplished through web design templates that, while offering little in the way of customizing their format, significantly speeds up the process by which you can add content. Freewebs is the winner here based on templates. Most of the designs that are available to paying customers are available to those on the free plan. Bravenet suffers greatly in comparison for two reasons. One, they simply don't offer much in the way of choice. Making matters worse, the free template designs they do offer are pretty lackluster in comparison to the wide range of possibilities that Freewebs offers. In addition, many of the templates on Freewebs offer the potential for customizing your logo with one of your own design. Freewebs is hands-down the victor when it comes to web page templates on their free sites. Bravenet, however, offers a tremendous number of templates if you upgrade to premium, but you can't use them with the easy template wizards so it gets a bit more complicated to personalize and customize your design.

Since writing this article, I've experience one problem after another with Freewebs. I don't know if these bugs and irritants are going to wind up being a temporary thing, or if it is a sign of things to come. At any rate, I would recommend you sign up with Bravenet until further notice. Freewebs is just ridiculously messed up right now.

Currently, all my Websites are on MSN or Yahoo!, but the way MSN often decides they'll be running a 2-3 week "porn and illegal content" check has hurt me in the past, prohibiting access to my Presidential campaign Site for almost two months total over the course of the 2004 election run.

I like freewebs to build a website, but I love Bravenet's web tools. If I had to chose a site to build my website on though...I'd chose freewebs for sure. Nice article! Check out my cp page! http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/47603/idalia_benavides.html
