The Gem of the Stadium District: the Parkway Tavern

Enjoying What's on Tap at One of Tacoma's Finest Taverns

One of the best places to head on any night is Tacoma's 72 year old Parkway Tavern. Here you will find locals and non-locals alike mingling and interacting by the dozens. This place always seems to be busy, even on Monday nights. Some of my friends have even commented that the Parkway is like Sesame Street because there's such a diverse crowd there every day and night. I've never rubbed elbows with a better, more friendly group of people. Even the staff at the Parkway is top notch and willing to cater to your needs at the drop of a hat.

Besides the more commonly-found local brews this tavern offers import variety beers and wines. A great example of this is the Parkway's Scottish Beer Festival. This celebration is one of the best places to be in the city for great Scotch Ales and even better drinking contests. You'll find contestants vying for the title of Scottish Beer Festival King or Queen by drinking liter upon liter of import beer. It's certainly a sight to behold. There's also a Seasonal Beer Festival as well as an IPA Festival each year.

Besides the drinks, festivities, and usual pub fare, the Parkway offers some of the best breakfast food in town. It's a great place to get smashed and then head to when you're trying to nurse your hangover. Breakfast here is served just like it was at home, in a huge, greasy, flavorful heap in the center of an even larger plate. It's greasy spoon at its finest.

At the Parkway you can enjoy your food and beverages with your friends in many different settings. The central room is akin to many other pubs, with a bar and stools as well as a few tables and booths. But a little exploration will pay off here. There's a game room with darts, shuffleboard, and pinball just down the main hallway. But the gem of the Stadium District has a gem of its own. The Parkway's Red Room is the place to be on Friday and Saturday nights. This room is covered in red paint and upholstered in zebra hide and black trim. There's a fire place that's always lit and above that a huge flat panel tv for those sports addicts that just can't leave their favorite teams behind.
