However, five percent of Peace Corps volunteers are over 50 and the oldest is 79.

BABY BOOMERS

To reach the baby boomers, the Peace Corps has launched its New 50+ Web Site offering help in understanding how 50+ volunteers can contribute and benefit from service..

Upon unveiling the website, Peace Corps Director said, "I'm proud of the new, interactive website devoted to 50+ Americans. Providing access to information about life in the Peace Corps is an important component of our initiative to attract this experienced and skilled population, and a great way to inform them about the meaningful and rewarding opportunities of service."

The 50+ website offers information geared towards older potential volunteers answering anticipated questions. The site offers advice on a variety of issues such as pre-departure medical evaluations, health insurance, retirement benefits, and serving with a spouse.

The website includes profiles, photos, and videos of 50+ volunteers.

To qualify Peace Corps volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age. Peace Corps service is a 27-month commitment.

Interesting - I didn't know Peace Corps is focusing on this demographic. I've known several people who have worked through Peace Corps. The experience is usually described as a very difficult but very memorable life experience.
