I've heard countless "real" writers forcefully and adamantly say that writing for "free" is a NO-NO. Since when? As a beginning writer, I listened to and followed this advice, accepting it as solid gold. Quite frankly, between you and me, it's a load of bull.

I'm an out of the box writer and I say writing for "free" (love) is a YES-YES. If you've gotten out of the habit of writing, this will prime your pump, so to speak. You'll get those squeaky wheels turning, apply some oil (writing, writing, writing), and before you know it, you'll be rolling along in no time at all.

I'm not advocating that you should write for free forever. What I am saying is that sometimes we tend to forget the joy we once experienced when writing from our hearts.

I believe all writing, whether you're writing for free (love) or writing for compensation (money), is all good. I also believe you need a good measure of both. If you write for pay, then you know how stressful and strenuous that whole process is-it gets downright overwhelming sometimes. Writing for the sheer love of writing allows you to be creative and write what you are passionate about.

Writers should write and submit to article directories for several reasons:

=> You'll get lots of practice writing

=> You'll set a writing goal and see it come to fruition, which will inspire you to reach higher on your next goal(s)

=> You'll learn how to write an effective bio for your articles

=> Have a website? Your bio will compel and attract new visitors

=> You'll build credibility

=> You'll learn how to write to command a visitor to stop and read

=> FREE ADVERTISING for yourself! (What's better than that??)

=> You'll set yourself up as an "expert" in what you're writing about (build trust)

Have made a note of this and will begin to check it out. Have done ok with a couple of ezine submissions and hope to broaden my range. Thank you for a very informative article.

Thanks Anna! Article directories are simply websites where you can post your articles for free, with a bio at the end, and newsletter/ezine publisher & website owners pick them up and re-publish them. It's a great way to get exposure for yourself online. One of my favorite ones is Ezine Articles. Just do a search online for "article directory" and you'll find a ton of them. Good luck! :)

What are article directories and how do I find them? I am just now thinking of getting back to trying to write, we have several difficult months. Anyway I think you have given some good advice.
