Product Review: Planters Trail Mix Nut & Chocolate

Recently, I was shopping for a healthy snack to send to work with my husband. He often would not get a lunch and was starving by the time he would get home. So I was trying to find an office friendly snack that would tide him through on those days when he was too busy to eat a normal lunchtime meal. I stumbled upon Planters Nut & Chocolate Trail Mix in the peanut aisle at my local grocery store. Knowing his love of peanuts, yet knowing his extreme dislike of raisins, I made the purchase somewhat reluctantly. At the very least, I thought, he could leave the raisins for me!

Planters Trail Mix is manufactured by Kraft Foods, a major manufacturer. While the generic store brand was perhaps a little cheaper, I opted to go with a name brand because I feared getting less than delicious tasting nuts and chocolate. I knew I could buy this product with confidence that the product would be made with quality components. Additionally, being manufactured by a brand name company would increase the chances of availability of this product in other areas of the country. Simply put, if I decided I liked the product, I wanted to be able to find it on store shelves and not just at a mom and pop specialty mart.

Planters Trail Mix Nut & Chocolate contains peanuts, chocolate candy pieces, raisins, cashews and almonds. I am personally not a fan of cashews, but my husband adores them. Conversely, he hates raisins and I love them. It was the chocolate pieces, colored and looking a lot like m-n-ms without their trademark "m" printed on them, that were going to be hotly contested. The mix is nicely distributed with just enough of most ingredients to satisfy your hunger. I do think it is lacking in chocolate pieces, though, and a little stingy with regards to almonds. This mix will surely please a peanut and cashew lover, as those two nuts, along with the raisins, make up the bulk of the mix. Overall, however, it is an appetizing mix of snacks to munch on.
