Everyone seems to agree that an education is necessary to "get ahead" in the world. Luckily, obtaining a college degree is easier than ever, thanks to the advancements in online learning. While it is imperative to make sure the school is fully accredited, once students get enrolled in a program, the online experience has many advantages over a typical "bricks and mortar" college classroom setting. If you are considering online learning, read on to learn six specific advantages to taking classes online.

1. Flexibility- Online classes are completed on the student's schedule. This allows students to find a balance between school, work and family time. Early birds can log in during morning hours while night owls can complete assignments after the family has gone to bed. Many working students do the majority of their school work on the weekends. The major benefit to a flexible schedule is that it allows students to "attend" class at a time of day when they will be most focused on the task at hand, which results in a better understanding of the material covered.

2. Sessions versus Semesters- Most online courses are set up on a session schedule, typically lasting six to eight weeks in length. This means classes will be completed faster than many on campus classes, where courses last a full semester. This schedule is the epitome of time management at its finest. Finishing classes faster means obtaining the degree sooner.

3. Student/Professor Relationship- Many students report a closer student/teacher relationship, as the online environment allows direct contact with professors on a private page. Each student has personal access to the professor through the "faculty office" page as well as email. This page allows in-depth discussion about assignments, grades, and circumstances that may arise over the duration of the course.
