Perception is key in the decision making process as a manager, because you must fully understand the decision you must make along with all of the facts and information involved in the situation you must resolve. If you have bad perception of the situation and do not consider all of the facts that are involved such as external factors that you or anyone else have no control over you may make the wrong decision, in turn causing negative consequences for the organization and yourself. In order to have good perception of any given situation you must analyze all of the pertinent information involved in a timely manner, without making a hasty decision. In addition, you must have good listening skills and decisiveness as a manager to succeed and be able to deal effectively with all problems that are directed to you for resolution.

As a manager the majority of the time, you be solving more problems than anything else, because not only do your subordinates turn to you to resolve disagreements between team members, but your superior will also turn to you to resolve matters they do not have time to solve. Your superior may also appreciate your input because you are dependable and are able to easily understand situations and correct them quickly with good suggestions for the problem at hand. Many times your perception and resolutions to problems will give you a better repertoire with your superiors helping you move up in the company quickly. This is because they quickly find out how well you deal with a fast paced environment along with many individuals depending on you, at the same time, to keep your department or employees on track to meet the goals the company is striving for.
