On Christmas Day of 1946, James Delaney Buffett, Jr. and his wife Mary Loraine, of Pascagoula, Mississippi got a real present. They welcomed "Jimmy William Buffett" into the world. "J.D.", as his father was known, worked around ships and water. So, as Jimmy grew up, he was often taken along on sailing trips. Buffett describes himself as "the son of the son of a sailor," as his grandfather was the Captain of his own ship. Read this interesting article and learn some little known facts about singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett that will probably amaze you!

The Early Years
The Buffet Family moved from Mississippi to Mobile, Alabama. Jimmy graduated from the McGill Institute for Boys in 1964. From there he attended Auburn University and The University of Southern Mississippi. Jimmy Buffett earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism in 1969. While he attended college, he learned to play the guitar- a skill that would help form his future.

Buffett married Margie Washichek, got a job, and started to settle down. A little known fact about singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett is that he started out as a correspondent for Billboard Magazine in Nashville.

Present and Future
Let's fast forward to 2007. Jimmy Buffett's first marriage lasted only two years. In 1977 he married his current wife, Jane Slagsvol. Together they have three children: Savannah Jane, Sarah Delaney, and son Cameron Marley. Since he released his first album "Down to Earth" in 1970, he's come a long way. You see, Buffett moved from Nashville to the Key West. It was there he cultivated his laid-back, beach bum disposition that helped make him famous. He took the nautical stories his father and grandfather had told him, combined those with tropical island themes, and put his words to a country-folk-pop music mix. Buffett started a band called the "Coral Reefers", and he and his Caribbean/Country music are still going strong more than three decades later.
