Life throws so much garbage at us on a daily basis that we often feel as though we are drowning in the debris. It has been said that one man's trash is another man's treasure. That bit of wisdom can be applied to the daily aspects of our lives if we learn to seek pearls among the debris.

Spend time with friends.

Even a few minutes of conversation and laughter with good friends can lighten the load and leave you feeling refreshed. Friends know the right things to day to lift your spirits. They also know how to make you laugh. Time spent with friends often produce pearls of wisdom.

Try doing the opposite.

Humans are creatures of habit. We get set in our ways and tend to resist change. We become familiar with routine and can easily be thrown off kilter when our routines are broken. But sometimes change can be just what we need to find those pearls that exist within us all. Instead of getting angry, upset and depressed with all the garbage of life, try doing the opposite. Search for the positive aspect. Challenge yourself to find the grain of good. Instead of reacting in the same negative manner, stop, take a deep breath, smile and react just the opposite. Put your best positive face forward. Let your inner pearls of wisdom shine through.

Rediscover sleep through an afternoon nap.

Most people don't get enough sleep. Without adequate sleep we don't function at optimum performance. We often feel sluggish and lack the ability to concentrate. We may feel irritable and ill equipped to deal with the stress of daily tasks. Taking a nap can help us to relax and rejuvenate. Taking a nap also helps to refresh your mind and get the mental juices flowing. Don't think of taking a nap as being lazy; think of it as a pearl of wisdom. You'll be surprised what other pearls of wisdom might pop into your head when your mind is relaxed and refreshed.

Be a dancing pearl.

During the work week, I try to get in a short nap before reporting for work and during my lunch break. Weekends I don't have time or am prevented from doing this, which is why weekends usually don't do much for me.
