Tony Bennet Wins an Emmy
..and He Deserves It
I've Met Tony many times, because I live and work in NYC, and all I can say is he is the nicest guy ever.
It's amazing. Tony is the last of the crooners. He is 81 years old, and when you meet him, you would think he's in his '60s. He is so young at heart.
Tony is such a nice guy. He performed at my place of work years ago, and gave ALL the staff a copy of his autobiography, "The Good Life". I read his book, which he gave me. I didn't read it right away - it was a year or so later. When I did read it, I was so impressed with many things. First, his very strong Italian background. I loved that. But, what really threw me off about Tony, that was said in his book, was his WW2 involvement. Tony joined in this war late, mostlly due to his age. When he did join, he was in a band, in the army. What people do not know is he was also on the front during liberation of the Nazi camps. In his book, he wrote about how the Nazi's did detain Jews. He was there during the liberatations. That was a big deal to me. Major impression on his character to write about it.
Tony deserves any Emmy, or any Grammy...or anything....!!! He is the last of the last! And he is such a REAL person. He is beyond cool. I have seen him at my job for OVER 20 yrs, and he has always been very cool and nice. I can't say that about many other 'lesser' celebs. Toast to Tony!
Again, Kudos, to Tony - who is 81 years old. He is 81 years old and still getting awards. Is it because he is the last of an era? I do not know? I think, it's because he is just such a really nice guy, who has always had talent. His talent was not shown as much as a Sinatra ect...but He's TONY, and he's still alive and performing like no one else has. Tony is such a nice guy, I have to repeat that, because I've met him, and some of the now gone others. Tony will live for 100 yrs.
