This time of year is the perfect time to turn thoughts indoors after the months of active summertime outside activities. There is something about the way the sunlight begins to slant into the house from a further southerly direction that makes you want to warm up the inside décor of the house. Richly colored afghans that were stored away for the summer months turn up again loosely draped across the back of couches and the fireplace rug that spent the past few months rolled up inside the hallway closet is once again artfully placed in front of the hearth. This inside nesting instinct that reappears this same time each year heralds the return of old man winter for the next few months and we know that more time will be spent more indoors around a roaring fire with good friends helping pass away the colder months.

Now is the perfect time to start on an autumn table top floral arrangement that will help carry you and your home into the cozy months ahead. What fun it is to choose the colors and types of flowers that will go into this focal point of the room! Many people like to stay with the more traditional theme of using chrysanthemums and asters loosely arranged in a container of rich earth tones that says it is indeed the season of fall. This can be accomplished with either fresh flowers that will last about a full week and are a great idea if you are hosting a special event in your home. If you are looking for something that will be able to be used again, these flowers can be purchased at various craft and home stores that look real enough to fool even the closest observer. Since Halloween is such a great theme with which to decorate at this time of year, the addition of jack-o-lanterns, black bats and small white ghosts lend a great accent that also carry a bit of whimsy into the presentation.
