Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Awards $39 Million

To 15 Addiction Technology Transfer Centers

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration news release, a $39 million grant has been issued for the next five years to 15 Addiction Technology Transfer Centers.

The total amount given to each center will be $550,000 in a five year period. The Addiction Technology Transfer Centers that will receive the grants over 3.9 million people between the age of 12 and older each year who are in treatment for alcohol or illicit drug problems. By giving these grants, it will allow more training for treatment providers and other professionals. Total funding to all 15 centers will be $7.8 million for the year.

The centers that will be receiving the grants will be Brown University in Providence, R.I., Danya Institute Inc. in Silver Springs, Md., Florida Certification Board in Tallahassee, Fla., Institute for Research, Education, and Training in Addictions in Pittsburgh, Pa., Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga., Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, Ore., Regents of the University of California, in Los Angeles, Calif., Universidad Central de Caribe, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, University of Illinois in Chicago, Ill., University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, Curators University of Missouri in Kansas City, Mo.,University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.

Terry Cline, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Administrator, states "By training treatment providers and other professionals in the latest evidence-based practices, Addiction Technology Transfer Centers help ensure that those who need treatment receive the best care," she also went on to say "ATTCs are an integral part of SAMHSA's work to improve access to information on tested interventions and to speed their use in the field."
