Sounds of 1988
The day the light came I later learned was called my birthday and it was December 24, 1988. It's a special day for many people but its special for me in a totally different way. It was the day I began to find out what all the commotion was about, while I lay stuck in my dark cell. The first sound I clearly remember was what I later learned was my mother nagging and complaining. Inside my tomb it sounded like a constant high pitched squawk. My dad told me when I was old enough to understand, that my mom complained a lot during this time. He said she was very fond of complaining about how expensive everything was. "Eggs are $.65 cents, Stamps are $.24 cents," she would yell (The People History 2007). "You better get a better job if you wanna feed this baby, $24,250 a year is not enough," she shrieked at my dad (The People History 2007). As the conversation carried on my father told me that my mother complained the most as she went into labor. I do clearly remember hearing a prevalent amount of shrieks a short time before I was released from my prison of darkness. "How did that damn oil storage ship just drift away from that platform (BBC 1988)? I cannot believe those idiots..." she shrieked. "Honey there was gale force winds and they were in the open seas," my dad calmly states. "Well that doesn't matter because now we are paying $.91 cents a gallon for gas (The People History 2007)." This conversation went on the whole ride to the delivery room.
These sounds were just the start of many more to come the fateful day of December 24th. As the light came upon me and I was forcefully pushed to freedom I immediately was struck very hard on, my rear end. I began to cry. This was not the last time of the day I would Sounds of 1988 4
