Being from New York City where there is so much going on all the time I had never noticed Constitution Week. However, I have just moved to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and currently live in the community of Snee Farm. Snee Farm is part of the plantation land of Charles Pinckney who has been called one of the forgotten founders of the Constitution. Snee Farm is 28 acres of what was once 715 acres of land inherited by Charles Pinckney in 1782. I went to stand on Pinckney's porch a few days ago and you can feel the history floating all around you. If you wish to visit this amazing piece of land that George Washington himself visited in 1791 this is the week to do it.
Visit the Charles Pinckney National Historical site on Long Point Road in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina to learn more about the early years of our country and about Mr. Pinckney's involvement in the framing and signing of the Constitution. On this site stands the old Pinckney home with sprawling weeping willow trees just feet from the wrap around porch. Inside the house are artifacts and copies of documents that helped to make this Nation what it is today.
On Friday September 21, 2007 from 10am to 2pm people are invited to the Pinckney National Historical Site for a day of living history complete with actors in period costume. You may visit any time during the celebration of Constitution Week to take part in the "I signed the Constitution Program" and sign a scroll that will be sent to the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. For more information you should contact Carlin TImmons at 843-881-5516.
