Before beginning I should point out that the name of this particular article isn't 100 percent accurate. The American Life League, specifically Judie Brown, has not "called out" Associated Content writer Zac Wassink. On September 11, 2007, Ms. Brown wrote a blog in which she responded to an article that Mr. Wassink had published on Associated Content on January 31 of this year.

In the article entitled "You Can't Be Catholic and Be Pro..." A Bumper Sticker Enlightens Me on Religion, Mr. Wassink gives his opinion on what he feels is the difference between a person being "pro-choice" and "pro-abortion." To summarize, Wassink states that a person who is pro-choice isn't necessarily for abortion. He feels that there probably aren't many people who actually enjoy the idea of somebody having an abortion. However, Wassink is in favor of giving somebody the choice to have an abortion if she feels the need to do so.

In her response Ms. Brown states that Mr. Wassink is "a person who doesn't mind the fact that a child is murdered during an abortion, but who would never have that act performed on his own child--at least not for now." I'm not sure if she is implying that, if Wassink ever does have children, he would be in favor of them being murdered eventually. I highly doubt that he would, though, unless his child were to grow up to be a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I digress.

zac i totally should have had you write some of my papers in highschool maybe even college for the little bit i was there. well thought out well articulated, and makes a point of not ripping her a new one as she was to a degree it seems doing to you. and having known you for years and being one who can attest to the fact that you are not close to being catholic it does make me laugh that she assumes you are and i really am sick of people making it seem like they are without sin and above reproach.. i dunno great article hope the next few are just as readable

Today's Catholics can't or won't live in a world where discussion and/or negotiation does not exist on a variety of topics that are both pressing and a fact of life. Your readers are very correct in their assertion that the anti-abortionists care primarily about the birth of a child, not its life. Someone mentioned to me recently that if the Church were to sell off some of its extremely rare, valuable artwork contained in the Vatican, how much good that money could accomplish...

Very well crafted and written, Zac. I was impressed that you were able to maintain and defend your position without coming anywhere near the lowly stance of Brown. I was raised within the Catholic church at a period in time where there was little, if any, breathing space between 'right' and 'wrong'. If your opinions or beliefs did not match those of the Church to a T, you were both a sinner and condemned to hell. Talk about scary. As membership in the Church continues to decline, perhaps one day the College of Cardinals will realize why.

Another strong article, Zac. You're on a roll here lately. Anyway, I'd like to reply to RazorsEdge. What about the rights of the father? I know that in 999 out of 1,000 cases the father is willing to go along with the mother's decision, but what about those times when the father of the baby wants to have the child while the mother does not? Does the father have no rights in this situation? I have no definitive answer to this question, but I just hate the line of thinking that it's 100% up to the mother to decide what to do with the baby and the father has no say in the matter whatsoever.

Hehehe, okay Mr. Wassink, I think you may have several points, all wonderful and humorously expressed. By the way, I like RazorsEdge's point also... I don't suppose Ms. Brown paused in her stone throwing to volunteer to ensure the lives of all children un-aborted are pleasant?

Wow, just wow! In the end, everyone should be entitled to their own opinion.

big thanks to AC for not implementing a single one of my font adjustments for things such as the title of Ms. Brown's work and others as well. Also, let me clarify that I have no bad feelings personally towards Ms. Brown or others like her. I just find them to be scary

I believe everything possible should be done to prevent abortion, but in the end, it is between a woman, her God and her Doctor. Too many of the anti's couldn't care less about the child once they've been born. I find that appalling and hypocritical. One editorial writer at a statewide paper once said that's "there's something wrong with a positon that keeps changing it's name" referring to "pro-abortion" becoming known as "pro-choice". How he could fail to see the irony is beyond me after the other side changed from "anti-abortion" to "pro-life". I have issues with both extremes.

That last paragraph is priceless, Zac.

Wow, Zac! Do you often have to deal with these kind of situations? I have to say that I am not in favour of abortion, but that does not mean to say that I would write anything against those who believe in it or are agreeable to the practice. It is not my right to tell others what they should think or do. Sophie
