Puerto Viejo: A Resident's Guide to the Best Hotels, Food and More
Looking for places to eat? Just ask anyone to point you to these excellent places.
Bread & Chocolate. This small cafe and restaurant is owned and operated by a young man named Tom from New Jersey. He makes all the Bread and Chocolate among other delicious meals in his own kitchen. Every time I go, I order his amazing Jamaican Jerk Chicken Sandwich. It's the best in town.
Cafe Rico. If you are looking for breakfast, you need to eat here at least one morning. Roger, from the UK serves the Ana Rosa Special - eggs over fried potatoes with cheese and his special sauce. At his establishment you can also rent Snorkel gear, Bikes, Room, and laundry services.
Chile Rojo. This is my new favorite restaurant in town. They serve an international mix with owners from England and Japan. Their food is high quality and healthy. Vegetarians must visit for a large selection of meals.
Loco Natural. This place not only serves wonderful food but a wonderful view town and tranquillo atmosphere. On the main street and on the second story, you will be able to watch the nightlife from a safe distance and enjoy live music that starts at 9pm.
Staying in Puerto Viejo is not a problem. There are many hotels or "Cabinas" as they are called locally, to choose from. I recommend these places.
La Isla Inn. This is actually down the street from Puerto Viejo in the edge of town. I think this is the best hotel in town. You have your choice of AC, ocean views and amazing meals. Located right on the beach break, it is a must for surfers. Check their web page for rates.
