There are numerous charities and other organizations which benefit many different spheres of society; but perhaps is no more important than those which benefit and try to quell and eliminate child abuse. Child abuse, unlike terminal cancer or other diseases without cures is 100% preventable; so long as we remain vigilant and are able to saturate the airwaves with information, to pediatricians, to teachers, to counselors, to neighbors, to friends, to prospective parents, and to actual parents then we've done most of the battle.

Enabling a child with the information and letting them know that they've got a place to go if they ever are victims of abuse is nice but it's not solving the problem which is the adult figure committing this abuse. If we put forth stiffer penalties and made sure that people who committed these atrocities weren't just put on some list somewhere but were taken out of society, then we'd have a much easier time eliminating the problem.

To this end the Isle ofPalms Connector Run & Walk for the Child is set to launch their 15th run this October 6th at 8AM. The Isle of Palms had their first race in 1993 and has grown in sponsorship to include The Exchange Clubs of Mt Pleasant and the Isle of Palms, the City of the Isle of Palms, the Town of Mount Pleasant, as well as the Medical University of South Carolina's Children's Hospital in Charleston.

100% of the net proceeds from this event will go exclusively to local prevention of child abuse and other child-related programs making this an especially poignant event for people from the area that have a vested interest that their children grow up smart and grow up right. Child abuse can happen anywhere along the way; it doesn't even have to be from a parent but can be another relative, friend, neighbor, or other trusted individual.
