Dream Act for Illegal Immigrants Unfair, Group Says
According to FAIR, if the Dream Act passes, middle class Americans attempting to obtain an education will lose benefits due to the amnesty granted to millions of illegal aliens in this country. At the expense of Middle Class Americans who are trying to get an education, the Dream
Act will grant amnesty to millions of Illegal Aliens.
Senate backers of the amnesty proposal are attempting to sneak through an amnesty bill. Initially, this proposal was vehemently opposed by the American public.
The Dream Act introduced and rejected in the last three sessions of congress is a sneak attack designed to create sympathy from the public. If passed, the DA would grant green cards and instate tuition benefits to illegal aliens who previously entered the state as minors and then graduated from high school. This will be at the expense of law abiding, tax paying Americans.
American children would be forced to compete with these illegal aliens for what are already limited spots in state universities. The Dream Act provides that most students under good moral character who came into the U.S. before they were 16 years old and at least 5 years before the date of the bills enactment, would qualify for conditional permanent residency status upon acceptance to college. Or upon graduation from high school or being awarded a general equivalency diploma.
As stated by Dan Stein, president of the Federation for America Immigration Reform (FAIR), sympathy for one group of illegal aliens would result in a huge cost to American children who would have to give up their opportunities for taxpayer-funded opportunities of higher education.
The version offered to congress will most likely be in the form of an amendment to the defense bill and is far more expansive than the earlier version.
Stein said the Dream Act on its own does not deserve to be passes and this has already been made clear to Congress by the American public that they reject amnesty for illegal aliens. Stein questions what granting amnesty to illegal aliens has to do with funding our armed forces.
